Community members are invited to celebrate International Women’s Day at Living Learning Pakenham, at a free event recognising local women and gender equality.
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
The local event will centre around this year’s International Women’s Day theme; ‘embracing equity.’
Guests will be joined by Abiola Ajetomobi, who will be presenting on why equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have.
Abiola is a local Cardinia Shire resident and a Board member of Plan International Australia, Chair of United African Farm and Women of Colour Melbourne. She has more than 20 years of management experience.
Abiola has a Graduate Certificate of Management of Not-for-Profit Organisations from Australian Catholic University, where she was honoured with the Inaugural Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Innovation Alumni Award 2020. She is also 2021 alumni of the For-Purpose Executive Leadership Program at Melbourne Business School.
Abiola founded Leading Impact NOW. - a lived experience-centred management consulting firm with equity and Inclusion at its core.
A panel of guests will also discuss equity in the workforce and community, as well as how we can all actively support and embrace equity within our own sphere of influence.
Morning tea will be provided.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Tammy Radford encouraged community members to attend the event and help address the unequal expectations, pressures and treatment of women in our community.
“As our Gender Equality statement outlines, we want everyone who lives, works and spends time in Cardinia Shire – regardless of their gender identity – to be treated with respect and fairness, to feel and be safe, and to have equal access to opportunities to reach their potential and pursue their dreams,” Cr Radford said.
“I encourage all members of our community to come along to our International Women’s Day event and learn from women and girls lived experiences to help make Cardinia Shire a safer, healthier, fairer and more equitable place for all.”
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.
