Following a unanimous decision at the Special Council Meeting on 9 February 2023. The Town of Cambridge is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Gary Tuffin as the Town’s new CEO.
Mr Tuffin brings over 25 years’ local government experience, including 20 years as a CEO. He has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance), an MBA in Leadership, is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and a member of the Local Government Chief Officers Group.
Since 2016, Mr Tuffin has worked at the Town of East Fremantle as its CEO. Prior to this Mr Tuffin served on several boards and worked as CEO for three West Australian regional councils.
Town of Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon said Mr Tuffin’s track record as a successful executive leader would provide the Town with stability and confidence as it continues to grow and evolve.
“Gary is an exceptional leader and experienced CEO who values working collaboratively with elected leaders, residents, and staff to deliver positive community outcomes. His experience in the areas of financial management, governance, regulatory oversight and stakeholder engagement will help to improve the Town and deliver more value for ratepayers,” said Mayor Shannon.
“Cambridge is a unique local government that is home to 29,000 residents and 4,000 businesses in suburbs stretching from Lake Monger to the coast. Gary’s passion for strong, ethical government and robust regulation will help to ensure that the Town thrives into the future, taking full advantage of the Town’s distinctive location and natural assets.”
“Council is looking forward to working with Mr Tuffin to achieve key strategic outcomes and provide sound leadership to the Town.”
Mr Tuffin said he was looking forward to joining the Town on 19 May 2023.
“I’m thrilled about this opportunity and I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started. I’m particularly excited by the challenge to deliver on the Town’s vision of having “the best liveable suburbs” by working closely with the council, community, and staff,” said Mr Tuffin.
The Town of Cambridge would like to thank Acting CEO Kelton Hincks who has been in the role since July 2022.
Mayor Shannon said Mr Hincks had conducted himself admirably in his role as Acting CEO, supporting the council during the transition to find a new CEO.
“Kelton was appointed Acting CEO in July 2022 and has led the Town passionately, providing effective leadership and support to the Town’s staff members. I’d personally like to thank and commend Kelton for how well he composed himself and supported council during his time as Acting CEO,” she said.
Mr Hincks will return to his role as Director Infrastructure and Works in May 2023.
