Spotlight on sport and recreation spaces
Alpine Shire 1 Mar 2023

Master planning for Pioneer Park in Bright, the Sports and Education Precinct in Mount Beauty, and Myrtleford’s town centre sports and recreation facilities is currently underway in order to meet both the existing and future needs of the community.

The need for three master plans was identified in Council’s recently completed Sport and Active Recreation Plan (2022).

Alpine Shire Mayor John Forsyth said each of these sites provides an array of sport and active recreation spaces of various sizes, ages, layouts and conditions.

“We’re currently seeking input from regular users of these sites to help us address some of the key challenges we face, including improving accessibility and inclusiveness for all, finding ways to better activate spaces, and determining the need for renewals or additional facilities and infrastructure,” he said.

“Input from the community will help determine the best location for specific sport and active recreation activities and create opportunities for informal recreational use,” Cr Forsyth said.

“We want to encourage all members of our community to get outdoors and be active.”

Once completed, the master plans and concept designs produced for each location will guide the upgrade and development of Alpine Shire’s key sport and active recreation facilities over the next 10 years.

Council has recently met face-to-face with representatives from formal sports and recreation user groups of each location, and would now like to hear from the broader community.

“We’re keen to hear from everyone in the community, from dog walkers to people who like to kick the ball around, to parents who take their kids to the playground,” Cr Forsyth said.

“We’d love to hear from everybody who is interested in the future of these areas.”

The Sport and Active Recreation Master Plans survey is now open and will close at 5pm on Friday, 24 March.
