Connecting Gannawarra community meetings planned

Published on 03 March 2023

Community meetings, drop-in sessions and listening posts will be held throughout March and early April as part of the Connecting Gannawarra community planning project.

Funded by the Agriculture-Dependent Community Resilience Project, the Connecting Gannawarra project will build on community planning work undertaken since 2008 for six Gannawarra communities - Lakes District, Lalbert, Leitchville, Macorna/Tragowel, Murrabit/Myall/Benjeroop, and Quambatook.

“Community plans play an important role in advising governments what a community’s future priorities are,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Developed and owned by the community, these documents capture a community’s voice for what is important to them and strengthen opportunities to obtain funding to make these long-term goals a reality.”

To assist with the development of community plans for each of the six communities, drop-in sessions, community meetings and listening posts are planned on the following dates:

Kerang Lakes – Tuesday, 14 March

Community drop-in session: Lake Charm Hall (any time between 2.30pm-5.30pm)

Community meeting: Lake Charm Hall (6.30pm-8pm)

Listening post: Outside Murrabit Tavern (4pm-5pm)

Community meeting: Murrabit Golf Club (7.30pm)

“This is your chance to meet with the people who will develop these community plans, provide your input and let us know what you want to see achieved in your community,” Mr Rollinson said.

Feedback will also be sought during Social Meals sessions held in each of the six communities during March:

Tuesday, 7 March (12 noon): Quambatook Senior Citizens Hall Thursday, 9 March (12 noon): Leitchville Memorial Hall Tuesday, 14 March (12 noon): Lake Charm Hall Wednesday, 22 March (12 noon): Murrabit Hall Friday, 24 March (12 noon): Macorna Recreation Reserve Tuesday, 28 March (12 noon): Lalbert Recreation Reserve
