A boat inspired building has opened as the new Marine Rescue headquarters in Broken Bay (Bayview). And what a site it is to behold the volunteer emergency service up and running.

To many in the community this site is a lot more than just a building. It's a bespoke-designed home for the highly valued and life-saving service that Marine Rescue provide to the community.

Designed for water, energy and thermal efficiency, the building features terrific insulation, high ceilings with lots of natural light, plus LED lighting, solar hot water, thermal windows, rainwater tanks and many other, sustainable features.

To say the building has been on its own journey is an understatement. For those with local knowledge, they’ll appreciate the combined effort it has taken to provide Marine Rescue with a building that is equipped to service rescue teams well into the future.

Council staff designed the building, and led a group of local engineers and other consultants to ensure the facility meets all the standards and strict building codes.

The result is a skilfully designed building. When you look at the eastern façade, the building is shaped like a boat with a bow, captains bridge, a stern and even with the red stripes to match Marine Rescue's branding.

What a marvel!

And thanks to the state government who invested $1,000,000 in the project, on top of the $250,000 that Council invested, it has become a pivotal place of connection for the community on the water.

Marine Rescue is a highly competent team in charge of helping the community out when things don’t go to plan on the water. They are also responsible for supporting our boating community year round and creating greater awareness about safe boating.

Now, the real heroes, the many Marine Rescue Broken Bay members and volunteers, will have a proper home to continue their work helping keep the community safe.
