A celebration of diversity with Big Rainbow and ChillOut

Published on 07 March 2023

Celebrations of diversity and inclusion will be in full swing this week with the installation of the Big Rainbow at Victoria Park in Daylesford due to finish and the commencement of the ChillOut Festival.

“Hepburn Shire is known for its diverse community, and the Big Rainbow symbolises our inclusiveness, respect and pride for our LGBTIQA+ community and allies,” said Cr Hood.

“The Big Rainbow will be a major attraction for visitors, in particular during the upcoming ChillOut festival, Australia's largest and most popular regional LGBTIQA+ event,” said Cr Hood.

ChillOut Festival began in 1997 and has grown to become a nationally celebrated LGBTIQA+ pride event, supporting and representing this important part of our community.  There will be an event launch event this Thursday and full program of events throughout the Labour Day weekend (https://chilloutfestival.com.au/).

“We encourage the community to get out and experience some of the fantastic events coming up throughout ChillOut.”

“Our region is known for some of its signature events like ChillOut, Clunes Booktown, CresFest and Spudfest, but our smaller events also play an important role in bringing the community and visitors together.  Events and tourism are an important part of our local economy,” said Cr Hood.

Council currently supports around 54 events annually, contributing $15 million annually to our economy.
