Wyndham City, in Collaboration with the Climate Futures Youth Leaders’ Volunteers, will be holding a Youth Summit to empower and educate young people to take action on climate change.

The Summit, to be held next month, will be led by the Climate Futures Youth Leaders Volunteers and will bring like-minded young people together to work towards creating a sustainable future.

The Summit aims to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and provide young people with some practical ways they can engage in the conversation.

Wyndham City’s Climate Futures and Environment portfolio holder Cr Robert Szatkowski said: “Through education, young people will be able to get involved and participate in their community and provide creative solutions as they embark on a climate journey.”

“There will be three highly engaging and interesting workshops including Recycling and Waste, Sustainability and Biodiversity.”

“The day will include a panel discussion, workshops and lunch and afternoon tea.”

The Speakers on the panel include the Managing Director of Velisha Farms Catherine Velisha, Sustainable Energy Engineer Amber Troung, Senior Healthy Country Project Officer Greg Robinson, Aboriginal Water Officer Dylan Wishart and a Wyndham Youth Representative.

The Climate Futures Youth Leaders are a group of empowered young people aged between 16-26 advocating for the environment and climate change.

They provide support in the planning and delivery of Environmental and Sustainability Events, Programs, Forums and Workshops coordinated by Councils, Climate & Resilience, Waste and Youth Services Teams.

The Summit will be held on Saturday 1 April from 10am to 3pm at the Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Centre in Wyndham Vale.
