The Collie community has the opportunity to participate in a variety of subsidised mountain bike skill development opportunities, thanks to the support of the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries and Adventure Connections.
The Wheels of Wellbeing project is a ten-week mountain bike skills development project commencing in April 2023. The project is aimed at people aged 16 years and over. If you are interested in developing your mountain bike skills, coaching mountain biking, and trail building and maintenance on our local Wambenger Trail Network, then don’t miss this fabulous opportunity.
As part of the project a number of participants will be selected, based on skills and a desire to give back to the mountain bike community, to participate in a three day PMBIA (Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association) Level One Coaching Course, to become certified local coaches, who will be able to support the development of the local mountain bike club and future mountain bike programs.
In conjunction with the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), a number of participants will also have the opportunity to complete a two-day, Introduction to Trails Maintenance Training course. This course will provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge required to assist in maintaining trails, including our local Wambenger trails network.
This is an exciting opportunity for Collie residents to get active outdoors more often, learn new skills and connect with your local mountain bike community. The cost to participate will be $25 per week totalling $250 for the 10-week program. Bikes and helmets can be provided, if required, and trail transfers are included. All participants must be able to ride a bike unassisted to participate.
