Baw Baw partners with local organisations for school holiday fun

Baw Baw Shire Council has teamed up with local youth organisations and community facilities to deliver an autumn school holiday program that’s sure to keep Baw Baw’s young people active and entertained.  

Commencing Tuesday 11 April, young people aged between 12 - 25 are encouraged to join in the range of free and low-cost events, activities and workshops. Here’s a preview on what’s on offer over the big two weeks:  

Sport and Recreation:  

GippSport’s program of activities includes supervised games of soccer, finska, bocce ball and basketball at the Warragul Leisure Centre.   Gippsland United Basketball Clinic provides the opportunity to sharpen basketball skills with Gippsland United players and coaches at the Warragul Leisure Centre.  YMCA Inflatable Fun Day with giant inflatables at the Warragul Leisure Centre.  Family Tai Chi classes at the Warragul Leisure Centre.  All Aboard Skateboard Sessions for beginners and pros at the Drouin Skate Park. 

West Gippsland Arts Centre: 

Little Wing Puppets presents The Fish That Wanted To Fly. In this story you meet a little fish whose lagoon is drying up. All the other fish have left, and she wants to learn how to fly so she can see them again.   Aladdin Jr Presented by Warragul Youth Theatre. Based on the 1992 Academy-Award® winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within. 

Arts and crafts:  

Street Art Workshop where attendees will be guided through street art with an experienced artist at Drouin Library.   Printmaking Art Workshop with Helen Timbury involving drawing, designing, carving into soft lino and then printing the block onto calico fabric and paper to take home. Taking place at the Warragul Goods Shed.   Art Workshop with Marc McBride at Drouin and Warragul Library.   Watercolour Bookmarks at Drouin Library where attendees will use watercolour pencils to paint flower designs on bookmarks.   Box Robots using everyday recycled materials like boxes, old CDs, lids, egg cartons and lots of other items and craft material to invent and build your own box robot at Warragul Library.  Lil Easel Arts – Paint and Play for Easter themed painting and crafts at the Robin Hood Inn, Drouin.
