Heritage celebrations draw near

The annual Heritage Festival returns next week with a big weekend of events to take locals and visitors back in time.

The Festival kicks off on Thursday April 6 with the outdoor screening of the Chips Rafferty classic 'The Overlanders' at the rear of the Trades Hall.

On Friday local historian Christine Adams will conduct day and night tours of the cemetery, and share the stories behind the many colourful characters who have been laid to rest in the cemetery grounds. Please note that spaces are limited for this popular event and early bookings are encouraged.

On Saturday the city will be treated to rare show of Australian motoring history, with the FE and FC Holden Club’s Nationals gathering being held in the city.

Over 90 historic FE and FC Holdens will be on display in Sturt Park between 9am-3pm on Saturday, then on Sunday the historic motorcade will depart from Patton Street for a drive through the city.  The cars will be parked in the vicinity of Bells Milk Bar in Patton Street between 8am-10am.

Saturday night will see historic Gawler Place transformed into a showcase of art, digital projections, and live music as West Darling Arts hosts GLAMFEST.

GLAMFEST will begin at dusk and feature the musical and artistic talents of nine local and visiting artists in a cultural celebration that is not to be missed.

The ever-popular Penrose Park Picnic Train will be in operation at Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday, and Heritage Walk Tours will also be running regularly from the Visitor Information Centre throughout the festival.
