Edithburgh jetty works go swimmingly

Yorke Peninsula Council has completed much-needed work on the Edithburgh jetty to enhance the user experience.

Work included the extension of the southern steps for divers/swimmers to have a safe access into and from the water as well as the removal of the northern steps.

Operations South Leading worker Stuart Heinrich-Smith said conditions had to be perfect for the operation which required cranes to complete.

“The whole jetty carpark was blocked off and we had a good crowd watching from the two top carparks,” Mr Heinrich-Smith said.

“We had a very good crew of four on the day with two being in the water for most of the install of the new ladder and removal of old stairs.

“The new ladder was bolted to the existing wooden stairs and extended down to the sea floor for easier egress for divers.”

Mr Heinrich-Smith said the ladder also has a footing at the base which can slide out to be attached to the sea floor.

“The old northern steps were broken and dangerous and had to be removed,” he said.

“After a couple of weeks planning on how the job was going to run the day went very well and everything went to plan.”
