8 Central Highlands residents from 7 countries were warmly welcomed as Australian citizens after taking the pledge last week in a ceremony, held in the council chambers.

Mayor Kerry Hayes acknowledged the complex process of acquiring citizenship and commended the conferees’ commitment to a healthy, happy, and successful future in Australia.

‘It is terrific to see our community growing and welcoming such a diverse group of people who will bring a range of new knowledge, experience, and influence to our region.

‘I could listen to their inspirational stories all day long,’ Mayor Hayes continued.

The attendees hailed from Mauritius, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Thailand, China, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.

Citizenship is the bond that unites us as Australians and council is pleased to be able to offer these ceremonies as a way of celebrating community members who make the Central Highlands a thriving and welcoming place to live and work.
