More than 4000 paddlers will converge on the border when Dragon Boat Victoria brings a major event to Gateway Lakes from April 20 to 24.
The event is being presented as a partnership between Wodonga Council, AlburyCity and the Australian Dragon Boat Federation
The highlight will take place on Saturday, April 22, when paddlers will compete for the Peter Bristow Trophy.
There will be roaming entertainment, magicians, local traders, live music, food trucks, giant TV screens, a Bali-themed beach viewing area and more.
Two local clubs based at Gateway Lakes will also feature in the event, Warriors – Albury Wodonga, and Brave Hearts Dragon Boat Club.
The weekend is also an opportunity for the community to watch the thrill and physical challenge of the sport of dragon boat racing, where the focus on teamwork will reward you with success.
Dragon Boat racing has cultural origins in ancient China and has evolved into a globally competitive sport.
Wodonga Council’s Manager Tourism and Cultural Services Kim Strang said, “The city is looking forward to showcasing such an exciting and fast-growing water sport, especially a major event such as the Australian Championships.”
