Plenty of egg-citing activities these school holidays

From art classes and macramé workshops to magic shows and history tours - there’s plenty to do, see and explore these Easter holidays. 

Budding artists can book into the free Paint and Weave workshop at Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery on April 20 from 10.30am to 12.30pm where participants will discover colours and patterns with local artist Felicite Gorgan. 

Families are invited to work together to decorate and create an abstract piece of art. 

Recommended for families with children aged five to 12 years. 

Jump on the macramé bandwagon with the free Birds of a Feather – Macrame Workshop at Hyphen on April 14 from 10.30am to 12.30pm where crafty kids and teens will be guided in macramé techniques to make a wall hanging and a pair of earrings to keep. 

All materials are supplied in this session perfect for beginners. For ages eight to 16. 

Creative kids will enjoy building fantastic creations with LEGO at Hyphen’s LEGO Free Play session on April 11. 

Freely build and see where your imagination takes you, or take on one of the design challenges. 

Drop in to Hyphen’s Community Studio to create and build any time between 11am and 3pm. Recommended for ages five to 12. 

Hyphen will host a movie matinee showing Howl’s Moving Castle! on April 17 from 2pm.

Rated PG, parents and carers of children under 12 are asked to stay for this activity to supervise. 

Want to learn how to take amazing pics with your smartphone?

Up your Insta game by booking into the Smartphone Photography with Nat Ord workshop on April 19 from 10.30am to 1.30pm, where you’ll learn from award-winning photographer Nat Ord.

Nat will cover the basics of smartphone photography through to editing your snaps to be upload-ready. Recommended for ages 15 to 18.

Relax, read and make the most of the autumn weather in The Cube Wodonga courtyard on April 21 from 11am to 2pm at the Library on the Lawn.

All the family is invited to pick up a book or have some fun with the giant games on the lawn.

Drop into to the library to browse the collection, take part in the craft activity or explore Hyphen’s latest exhibitions.

Is your child into board games?

Come and hang out with HuMM BuGG (Happy Murray Meeple Board Game Group) and learn some new board games.

Game On! is Hyphen’s holiday edition game day on April 13 from 11am to 2pm in the Community Studio and is hosted especially for young people.

Whether you’re a pro-gamer or a strategy newbie, there are specialists on hand to teach you.

Bring your friends or make some new ones as you form teams or work as a co-op playing games like Yak, Century Golem, Marvel United and many more.

Players of any experience level are welcome. This event is recommended for ages 13 to 18 years.

Children will get a taste of the migrant experiences that helped to shape modern Australia when families attend Children’s Day at the Bonegilla Migrant Experience on April 20.

The activities will include craft and food creation, with children making light catchers and clay pinch pots during morning activities and learning how to churn their own butter in the afternoon.

Lunch will be a BYO picnic in the grounds.

The craft and food activities will be held between 10am and 3.30pm on April 20, with all children to be accompanied by an adult.

With a maximum of 12 children for each of the four workshops, bookings are essential.

There are also guided tours running over the school holidays - adults $12, concession $10, children $9.

Pick up the phone to book a tie-dying class where children can make unique items of clothing that stand out from the crowd. 

Tie-dying Creations will be held at Felltimber Community Centre on Monday, April 17 from 10.30am to noon. Cost is $5 per child.

Bring some old clothing or use materials provided to create eye-catching patterns.

For children who like to cook up a storm in the kitchen, book them in to the Kids’ Cooking Club – Cupcake Decorating at Baranduda Community Centre on Tuesday, April 18 from 10am to 11.30am. Cost is $10 per child.

There will be another session at Felltimber Community Centre on Wednesday, April 19 from 10am to 11.30am.

Do you have a child who is interested in magicians and the art of magic?

Bring them along to see the amazing Dane the Great Magician.

He will wow the crowd with small illusions and amazing impossibilities and even reveal some of his secrets and teach some tricks too. 

Catch Dane the Great Magician at the Baranduda Community Centre on Thursday, April 13 from 2.30pm and at Felltimber Community Centre on April 13 from 10am to 11am.
