Illegal dumping under the spotlight

Posted on April 5, 2023

Council is investigating a range of illegal dumping offences across the region.

‘The cost of illegal dumping is not just an environmental one.  It takes time and resources of our compliance and environmental health teams to investigate and clean up,’ General Manager Communities, John McDougall said.

‘We have seen in more recent times a rise in the dumping of waste across our region especially on roadsides.  The most common items are white goods and tyres.’

‘There is no logical reason that illegal dumping should be occurring. Any resident across the region can dispose of general waste for free at any of our resource recovery facilities’

Anyone can report littering or illegal dumping they witness. To report an incident you can contact council on 1300 242 686 or call 13 QGOV (13 74 68).

If you see someone littering from their vehicle take note of as many details as possible such as:

the vehicle’s registration numberdate and time of the incidentlocation of the incident (including any identifiable features)type and quantity of wastea general description of the driver and vehicle details.

‘Significant fines to individuals and companies can be issued for illegal dumping.’ Mr. McDougall finished.
