Community members across the City of Rockingham are encouraged to share their thoughts on a new planning policy which will set out the rules for advertising development applications to the public.
Proposed Local Planning Policy No. 3.3.27 – Community Consultation for Development Applications, specifically outlines the ways that community members, either collectively or individually, will be able to present their views on development applications.
While not all development applications do require community consultation, the new policy applies broader public consultation requirements based on the complexity of Development Applications which could generate community interest.
Under the proposed policy more Development Applications will include longer advertising timeframes and more extensive methods of advertising than the minimum requirements which currently apply.
Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged residents to share their thoughts on the proposed policy.
“Public consultation is an important step in the planning process for a development application and the views expressed by the community are considered by Council when it makes decisions,” Mayor Hamblin said.
The City appreciates that development can impact everyone differently, which is why we encourage people to review this proposed policy and provide feedback to the City.Public comment is open until Wednesday 10 May 2023.
