Thoughtful and thought-provoking works by Russell Island-based artist Sharon Jewell form the latest exhibition at Redland Art Gallery (RAG), Capalaba until 9 May 2023.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said Redland Art Gallery provided excellent opportunities for artists to showcase a broad range of visual arts.
“We are fortunate to have excellent galleries that attract both local and national artists to exhibit with us,” Cr Williams said.
“Sharon Jewell has exhibited extensively in Brisbane and has also been involved in collaborative exhibitions overseas.
“Her works have been included in several group exhibitions held at Redland Art Gallery, and her work is also held in the Redland Art Gallery Collection.
“It’s exciting that artists of her calibre are based here on Redlands Coast and exhibiting to their local community.”

“Sharon has been developing works for this exhibition over many years so we’re thrilled she decided to exhibit them at Redland Art Gallery,” Ms Spear said.
“In this exhibition, sketches, doodles and notations have been transformed by hand stitching them onto cotton fabric using blue thread.
“While there is a simplicity in the line drawings, the quirky artworks invite viewers to use their imagination to make their own meaning.
“The artist has drawn on images and thoughts that have occurred randomly over time and beyond the usual strictures of daily life, resulting in artworks that are by turns tender, funny, thought-provoking and a little mysterious.”
