Council is inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from the community and market to help explore new waste management and resource recovery opportunities.
The intent of the EOI is to seek responses from interested parties to identify who and in what capacity materials usually disposed at council transfer stations could be reused or recycled by others.
Materials include landfill, food and organic waste, commingled recyclables, metals, green waste, timber, glass, rubble, e-waste, fridges, freezers and air-conditioners, mattresses, car bodies, oil, tyres and batteries.
Mayor Kerry Hayes commented on this initiative in moving towards a more circular economy by managing our waste more responsibly.
‘We recognise the need for a more sustainable and environmentally responsible approach to waste management and are committed to finding new ways to reduce waste, recover valuable resources and minimise the environmental impact of waste disposal,’ he said.
‘By exploring new opportunities for resource recovery, we can help create a more sustainable future for our region.’
‘Our aim is to divert what we can, and as much as we can away from our landfills. There are a lot of great materials that can be used by our community, from farmers to teachers and artists to community clubs,’ Mayor Hayes continued.
This approach will help to move our region towards a circular economy built on thoughtful and progressive action that embraces innovation.
We look forward to seeing the responses and continuing our council’s waste reduction and recycling efforts. You can view the expression of interest information here.
