Town of Cambridge councillors have voted unanimously to support Cr Kate Barlow, Deputy Mayor’s motion to install plaques on the footpath near the Floreat Surf Life Saving Club’s entrance.

The decision recognises the importance of capturing the Club’s history on the occasion of its 75th anniversary on 5 February 2023.

Cr Kate Barlow, Deputy Mayor noted the Club had provided a vital service to the community over a long period, keeping beachgoers safe and saving lives when called upon.

“The Floreat Surf Life Saving Club has been an important social and recreational focus for our community for 75 years, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors alike,” Cr Barlow said.

“To commemorate the Club’s major milestone and preserve the Town’s rich history, we are very pleased to install plaques in honour of the founding executive and committee.”

The Floreat Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1947 and has evolved to become an inclusive, family friendly environment, supporting lifesaving services and youth development.

The proposed plaques will give recognition to the founding executive and committee.

The Town of Cambridge will liaise with the Floreat Surf Life Saving Club on this proposal and investigate costs and options to install the plaques before reporting to the May council meeting.
