Improvements are on the way to Lake Monger/Galup Reserve and Woolwich Park in West Leederville following a funding allocation from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
As part of Phase Four of the Program, the Town of Cambridge has a $281,804 allocation to deliver local projects that boost community amenity.
The existing basketball playing area and regional playground on the southwest side of Lake Monger/Galup – alongside Lake Monger Drive – is one of two local recreational areas set for a revamp.
Along with an upgrade of the basketball court, new picnic settings and a barbeque will be introduced to the popular destination for families and social get-togethers.
Mayor Shannon said this latest LRCI Program allocation would be put to great use to boost local recreational areas.
“When you have an iconic location like Lake Monger/Galup, which is hugely popular with the community as well as people right across the metro area, it’s important that we make sure it has facilities of the highest standard,” Mayor Shannon said.
The Phase Four funding allocation will also benefit Woolwich Park, with the current pine lap fencing to be replaced with a new masonry boundary wall.
In 2020, the LRCI Program was implemented to stimulate the construction industry during the pandemic by creating local short-term employment opportunities.
Funding from previous phases of the Program has included allocations for local projects including the Lake Monger Southwest Inclusive Playground project, extending a footpath at Perry Lakes and replacement of a retaining wall at City Beach Tennis Club.
