For a number of years the City of Rockingham has been carrying out an extensive review of the planning documents that shape the growth and development of its Strategic Centre - and now community members are encouraged to share their thoughts on the City’s new draft local planning framework.
The Rockingham Strategic Centre is 533 hectares in size and includes the area from the Rockingham Train Station to the Rockingham Foreshore.
The City of Rockingham is one of 10 Strategic Centres throughout the Perth and Peel region tasked by the State Government with providing a diversity of uses and a range of essential economic and community services.
The review conducted by the City on these important planning documents has considered the challenges and opportunities for new development, redevelopment, infill development in the Strategic Centre, and improvements that can be made to the current planning framework.
Consultation on the new draft planning framework is now open, and there will also be a drop-in session for community members to ask questions to City staff (and its Project Team) on Wednesday 17 May 2023, at the Gary Holland Community Centre, from 5pm – 7pm.
Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged the community to share their thoughts on the new draft local planning framework.
“Planning for future generations is a key aspiration in the City’s Strategic Community Plan, and this new planning framework will be integral to guiding the development of our City Centre in the years to come,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“Significant effort has been taken by the City to ensure the local planning framework represents the direction the City is headed, and we now invite community members to share their thoughts.
“If you have any questions, the community drop in session on Wednesday 17 May is a fabulous opportunity to speak with City staff and its Project Team to learn more about the proposed changes. Otherwise, community members can also contact the City any time during business hours.Public comment closes on Monday 3 July 2023. For more information visit Rockingham Strategic Centre.
