In honor of our new membership with Botanic Gardens, Australia and New Zealands (BGAUNZ), council is throwing a big botanic bash!
As one of the largest Botanic Gardens in Australia, sitting on 42 hectares of land with over 9km of walking trails, why not promote all the wonderful things that our garden has to offer?
John McDougall, General Manager Communities is excited to announce our nomination to BGAUNZ was accepted.
This membership provides council’s Parks and Gardens team with direct access to a national database of expert guidance and resources to make our gardens even better. It also puts the Emerald Botanic Gardens on the official national tour map!
‘The aim is to preserve, enhance and protect what has been carefully built, to be enjoyed by generations to come,’ said Mr McDougall.
‘The colony, the size and the variety of botanicals we have here in Emerald needed to be recognised as one of the major Botanic Gardens in Australia, and this membership cements that fact,’ he continued.
To celebrate this wonderful achievement, council is hosting a free community event on Sunday 28 May 2023 from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm at the railway bridge entrance of the Emerald Botanic Gardens.
The day promises something for everybody with kids eco-activities, a free community sausage sizzle and cake, and kayaking on the Nogoa River.
You can join one of the three guided walking tours, ask questions about the gardens and give feedback about the master plan changes.
Once you’ve seen it all, and collected your complimentary native plant, unroll your picnic blanket and relax on the lawn with live music.
