Free flood debris disposal service extended

Published on 05 May 2023

Residents needing to dispose of flood-damaged debris from their properties can continue to do so at Gannawarra Shire Council’s transfer stations for free following an extension of the State Government’s flood waste levy waiver program.

Initially scheduled to end on 2 May, Council successfully advocated for this popular program to be extended, with the deadline now extended to Friday, 30 June 2023.

“For many of our residents, the process of removing debris damaged by the October-December 2022 floods is continuing, close to six months after floodwaters receded from some areas of the Gannawarra,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The waiving of fees associated with disposing materials at our transfer stations will provide residents recovering from our second major flood event in 11 years with some financial certainty.”

To be eligible for the waived fees, residents will be asked to provide a driver's licence or recent rates notice as proof the waste is from a designated flood-affected area of the municipality. Waste will also be inspected by Council staff to confirm it is flood-affected. Any items not flood-affected will incur a disposal fee.
