Learn how the Connecting Gannawarra project is progressing

Residents in six Gannawarra Shire communities are encouraged to attend community meetings in the coming weeks to learn about how the Connecting Gannawarra project is progressing.

Funded by the Agriculture-Dependent Community Resilience Project, the project is building on community planning work undertaken since 2008 for six Gannawarra communities - Lakes District, Lalbert, Leitchville, Macorna/Tragowel, Murrabit/Myall/Benjeroop, and Quambatook.

“It has been great to see residents from the six communities that will benefit from the Connecting Gannawarra project provide their views regarding what they see as their community’s future priorities,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“These priorities will be collated into new community plans for each district, with these documents to help strengthen opportunities to obtain funding to make these long-term goals a reality.”

The first stage of the project occurred during March and early April, resulting in more than 400 residents providing their views by completing a survey online or at locations in each of the communities, or meeting with the project’s facilitators via drop-in sessions, community meetings and listening post held in towns throughout the municipality.

As part of the next stage of the project, community meetings will be held on the following dates to enable the project’s facilitators to outline what feedback has been received from each community. Please note that arrangements for a meeting for Lalbert residents is still to be confirmed:

Monday, 15 May: Murrabit Playgroup Centre, Gonn Avenue (7.30pm-8.30pm) Tuesday, 16 May: Tragowel Hall (7pm-8pm) Monday, 22 May: Quambatook Tennis Club rooms (6.30pm-7.30pm) Tuesday, 23 May: Lake Charm Hall (7.30pm-8.30pm) Wednesday, 7 June: Leitchville Memorial Hall (6.30pm-7.30pm)

“These meetings are your chance to confirm that your community’s priorities that have been identified are correct, as well as provide further feedback,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Draft versions of community plans for each participating community will be developed following these meetings, which will be available for further feedback later this year.”
