Planning scheme amendment to help Cobden thrive

Published on 09 May 2023

Cobden residents are being called to have their say on the town’s future growth.

Corangamite Shire is preparing a planning scheme amendment to implement

the Cobden Structure Plan 2022; State Government residential zone reforms; and the Cobden Aerodrome Masterplan 2022.

The amendment would apply to land in and around Cobden, specific land to be rezoned and where new overlays will be applied, including the aerodrome.

South Central Ward Councillor Jo Beard encouraged residents to read the proposed amendment and have their say.

“The amendment ensures land use planning and development in Cobden is meeting community needs and maximising opportunities for sustainable future growth.

“Proposed changes include key elements from the structure plan and aerodrome masterplan.

“Most existing General Residential Zone land and some land on the edges of Cobden will be rezoned to Neighbourhood Residential Zone.

“This protects neighbourhood character, environmental or landscape significance.

“Additionally, the amendment will introduce protections to Cobden Aerodrome to secure ongoing operation of a key asset for emergency management, agricultural services and tourism opportunities.”

Cr Beard invited residents to a drop-in session to learn more about the amendment or the amendment process.

“Come along to the Heytesbury Room at the Civic Hall on Tuesday 16 May between 3-7 pm,” Cr Beard said. “Our planning experts will be there to explain what this means for you.

“You can also read the Structure Plan and the Aerodrome Masterplan and leave your comments at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/C59 up until 5 pm, Monday 19 June.

“For those who have been interested in the process so far, thanks for your input.

“The process for changing our planning scheme can be a long one, and while Council has already sought the Minister’s approval to undertake an amendment, we are at the next stage of the formal process seeking community feedback before it goes back again to the Minister for Planning for a final decision.”
