Wyndham City Libraries are pleased to announce the introduction of digital library membership cards in both Apple Wallet, and Google Wallet for new and existing library members.
Wyndham City’s Learning City portfolio holder Cr Jasmine Hill said: “New Library members that join will be offered a digital membership directly downloaded to their Apple or Google wallet.”
“This is a positive step forward as it replaces the need for a physical hardcopy card and is more convenient and better for the environment.”
Existing customers, and those that still wish to have a physical card can continue to use their card and they will also be offered the opportunity to install their library card in the digital wallet through a variety of options.
“These new digital memberships will enable customers to fully onboard themselves to the library services and will be more efficient, reducing the chance of a lost library card and will make it easier to borrow library items,” said Cr Hill.
The Libraries Victoria App also enables you to store your library card on your phone and you can use the app to search the library catalogue, place items on hold, see your checked out items, book a computer, and more.
“In good news for Wyndham readers, Public Libraries Victoria has resumed inter-library loans with the resumption of courier services between library services, which started on 1 May 2023,” Cr Hill said.
“This will allow Wyndham residents to once again access items held at other library services across Victoria through their local library and allow greater use of the Wyndham collection by residents of other local government areas.”
Australia Post is the new vendor for the courier service and will use Decipha and Star Track to deliver the service. Decipha will organise the sorting and dispatching activities and Star Track will be responsible for all collection and delivery logistics.
Both entities are wholly owned by Australia Post. The cost of the courier service is entirely paid by the State Government via Public Libraries Victoria, allowing us to operate an inter-library loans service at no cost to Wyndham City Council or the end-user residents.
