First package of flood road repairs begins

Gannawarra Shire residents are beginning to benefit from planned repairs to Council-managed roads damaged during the October-December 2022 floods.

Council has developed 12 works packages supported by joint Commonwealth and State Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, with the $30 million works part of Council’s commitment to repair more than 1,000 kilometres of flood-damaged infrastructure to a pre-flood standard.

“Council has developed funding packages to support repairs to Council infrastructure throughout the municipality, however delays in receiving government approval and funding has been impacting our ability to begin these much-needed repairs,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Repairs to roads damaged by last year’s floods, which is expected to take 12-18 months to complete, is another step in Council’s efforts to assist residents as they recover from our second major flood event in 11 years.

“Enabling residents to travel to and from their properties via the quickest way possible in a safe manner is pivotal as it helps residents remain connected to services and their communities.”

The first package of works, which includes grading road surfaces and resheeting areas where road surfaces were washed away, will focus on the following roads when work begins on Monday, 15 May:

Borella Road, Macorna North Harrison Road, Horfield Gainey Road, Mincha West Ladson Road, Mincha West Mincha West Road, Mincha Pyramid-Cohuna Road, Mincha West Single Oak Road, Mincha West

Regular updates regarding flood repair works will be provided via Council’s website, Gannawarra News, Gannawarra Connect and Council’s Facebook page.
