Community can unite against domestic and family violence

The Redlands Coast community has the chance to enjoy a great night out, while making a powerful statement that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated in their city.
The eighth annual Dîner en Rouge, which raises awareness and funds to help prevent this form of violence, will be held on Saturday 27 May at the Sheldon Event Centre.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the dinner coincided with Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month that is held each May in Queensland to raise community awareness and to affirm that DFV will not be tolerated.
“As a community we need to send the message that society does not accept this behaviour, that society does care, that society does still operate on values of respect, empathy, support and decency – and that we will protect each other,” Cr Williams said.
“This year our traditionally red and white Dîner en Rouge will turn ‘pink’, in honour of our partnership with the Small Steps 4 Hannah Foundation.
“This foundation, which uses pink as its colour, was established by Sue and Lloyd Clarke, parents of Hannah Clarke and grandparents to Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey, who died in February 2020, as a result of domestic violence. Their initials form the word HALT.
“Council is proud to continue our partnership with the Small Steps 4 Hannah Foundation and the amazing work they are doing and the goals they are achieving.”
Hosted by radio personality and Small Steps 4 Hannah ambassador Abby Coleman, Dîner en Rouge Goes Pink will return to a dinner format this year, following two years as a live stage show, and will include special guest speakers, live entertainment from the Steele Syndicate and Daniel J Lewis, a silent auction and raffles.
Cr Williams said Council was proud to again be working with Zonta clubs, Soroptimist International, Rotary Club of Cleveland, Redland Foundation and local DFV service advocates on the event.
“I encourage you to put a table together for this year’s Dîner en Rouge and come along to show your support for this incredibly important cause,” she said.
“Let us work together as a community to HALT the spread of domestic and family violence now and in future generations.”
