The approval for residents to provide feedback on the the Draft Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council’s May 2023 meeting, held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre on 17 May 2023.

The Draft Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy will guide future development in the municipality, identifying strategic planning directions that support housing and employment growth in the Gannawarra Shire.

Meanwhile, Councillors endorsed Council’s Flags policy and Community Flag Schedule, which govern the flying of flags outside the Kerang Council Building and Garden Park, Cohuna. The documents also establish a mechanism to consider requests for the flying of other flags significant to the Gannawarra community outside Council buildings or on Council-managed flag poles.

Residents were encouraged to have their say on both documents during March and April 2023, with seven responses received.

Other outcomes of the meeting included:

Receiving and noting the 2022/2023 Quarterly Budget Report as at 31 March 2023; Confirming the annual sitting fee for the Audit and Risk Committee’s chair and independent members; and Endorsing the recently reviewed Climate Change policy.
