Murchison and District Historical Society

October is History Month throughout Victoria and Murchison and District Historical Society celebrate with an event each year. This year they plan to feature specific history trail walks around Murchison and tell participants about the diverse and fascinating history the town has to offer. The walks will be available every Wednesday morning and Sunday afternoon for the month of October.

Shepparton Cycling Club Incorporated

Cyclo-Cross, or commonly also known as CX, is a mix of road riding and cross-country mountain biking, generally held over the winter and autumn period which makes for some muddy yet fun racing. Held over a short course, racers typically ride laps of the course which includes mixed terrain as well as obstacles that riders have to avoid, or commonly dismount to get over.

This event aims to offer families (with a focus on primary school aged children) a summer’s day out at the local pool. The program will run from 10am to 1pm with organised games and a BBQ lunch.

Northern Victorian Sled Dog Club Inc.

The 2023 Northern Victorian Sled Dog Club Classic will be the 31st year sled dogs have run through Moira Park in Kialla West over the June long weekend. The racing heats start early in the morning with the biggest classes going out first.

The race has a fully qualified emergency vet on site and a race marshal whose job it is to assure the race is held in accordance with all of the ASSA rules, policies and code of conducts. The presentation ceremony is held at midday on the Monday.

Tallygaroopna Primary School

Halloween night in Tallygaroopna is a great community night which brings together the entire community. For the past six years, the Tallygaroopna Primary School Parent's Club have organised a community BBQ at Larsen Reserve in Tallygaroopna. This event provides a base for parents, children and the community to come together between the festivities of trick or treating and sees attendance of more than 150 people.

Goulburn Valley Reining Horse Association Inc.

The Goulburn Valley Reining Horse Association is currently affiliated with the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) and the annual Water Wheel Reining Classic is one of the most popular reining shows in attracting competitors from all over the country. For competitors, the Water Wheel Reining Classic provides an opportunity to compete at an internationally approved show and gain points and prize money towards NRHA standings. Spectators to the event are welcome free of charge.

Shepparton Region Reconciliation Group Inc.

Aunty Pam Pedersen and Shepparton Region Reconciliation Group carried out extensive consultation with local First Nation’s Elders, organisations and community members about the level of interest in a local NAIDOC Week march. The feedback was that a local event on the first day of NAIDOC (Sunday 2 July) would provide a unifying way to launch and highlight NAIDOC Week. Barriers to participation such as the day of the event, distance, cost, and mobility would be reduced as it would be no longer necessary to travel to Melbourne to attend the Friday NAIDOC march. A local event would offer those in surrounding regional areas an opportunity to also come along and allow people to participate in their own community celebration.

The event is aimed at bringing Nepalese people living in Greater Shepparton together. The event will have fun activities for kids of all ages, including face painting and

Dancing, along with a traditional Nepalese dinner.

GV Hospice Care

A community remembrance event will be held on the foreshore of Victoria Park Lake. The event will encourage people of all backgrounds and ages to gather to listen to some uplifting speakers, music and light a candle to remember a loved one who died in the last few years. Attendees will be able to write a message on the paper bag before lighting the candle and placing it on the lakes edge.

The Taste of African Cultures Festival provides an opportunity for the wider community to experience the many African cultures living in Greater Shepparton and surrounds. It allows members of Greater Shepparton's African communities to share their culture and promote their talents and businesses to the wider community. This annual event brings African and wider community members together to continue to build relationships and break down barriers.

ShepparCon is an annual board gaming convention held in Shepparton and organised by a group of passionate local board gamers. The aim is to provide a friendly and inclusive environment where people who love board games, or who have an interest in gaming, can meet, interact and enjoy playing games together.

A one day tournament to be held at the Shepparton Sports Stadium, in which teams around Victoria will come to Shepparton to participate.

Victorian Waterfowl Association

An annual waterfowl show where the state's best breeders, both adults and juniors, compete for the best of breed categories and then onto the best waterfowl in Victoria. Over 1000 birds typically attend this event, making it the largest waterfowl show in Victoria. This is the third time the Victorian Waterfowl Association have held this event in Shepparton.
