Residents are encouraged to have their say on a document that will guide future residential and industrial development in the Gannawarra.
Councillors approved a recommendation at the May 2023 Council Meeting to receive community feedback regarding the Draft Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy, with residents able to have their say up to 5pm Friday, 16 June 2023.
The document lists numerous strategic planning directions that support housing and employment growth within the Gannawarra Shire, focusing on Cohuna, Kerang, the Kerang Lakes and Koondrook.
“Investigations conducted during the development of the Draft Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy found that Gannawarra Shire’s population is forecast to grow between now and 2046, with the success of proposed large-scale projects and investment opportunities to determine the speed of this increase,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.
“The Draft Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy will help support the future rezoning of residential and industrial land in Cohuna, Kerang, the Kerang Lakes and Koondrook to cater for this population growth, as well as ensuring that there is a clear and defined planning process to encourage new residential and industrial development locally.”
Residents can have their say on the Draft Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy in the following ways:
“All feedback received during the community engagement period will assist with the development of the final version of the Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy, which will be presented to Council at a later date for consideration,” Mayor Gillingham said.
