Residents of Upper Wilsons Creek, Wanganui and Huonbrook should expect some short traffic delays with Council’s crews in the area working on drainage, improvements to roads and slashing.
Roads and causeways in the valley were badly damaged in the 2022 floods and the work over the next several weeks is not a permanent ‘fix’ but rather an interim solution to make the drive to and from home a bit easier.
The following work will take place from mid-May until the end of June:
Slashing of vegetation on Wilsons Creek Road, working through Upper Wilsons Creek, Huonbrook and Wanganui. Pothole patching on Wilsons Creek Road through to Upper Wilsons Creek and Huonbrook. Minor drainage work Sealing and improvements to the road surfaces.Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said funding applications for the permanent repair of flood damage in the valley are well advanced and being progressively submitted to the NSW Government for approval.
“The work over the next four to six weeks is only an interim measure until we get all the approvals from the NSW Government and get contractors in place to rebuild and repair the roads and causeways,” Mr Holloway said.
“We know the roads in that area, along with some other parts of the Shire, are very rough so this work will make things a little bit easier for residents who have been contending with so many challenges over the last 15 months,” he said.
