Reconciliation Week Flag Raising Ceremony and Morning Tea
AlburyCity News 25 May 2023

The event will include a traditional smoking ceremony performed by Darren Wighton, a 'Welcome to Country' presented by Aunty Edna Stewart, and a ceremonial raising of the Aboriginal and Australian flags.

Attendees are then invited to come along and enjoy a sweet treat and a cuppa at the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA).

The event coincides with the beginning of National Reconciliation Week - a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2023, 'Be a Voice for Generations' urges everyone to act today for a more reconciled country. Using your power, your words and your vote you can help create a better, more just Australia for all of us.

AlburyCity Mayor Kylie King encouraged everyone in the community to come down and take part in the event.

"This is an opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate what it means to be part of our diverse and inclusive community, and to celebrate our nation's proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and culture," Mayor King said.
