Mareeba Shire Council wishes to advise residents of a planned one lane closure of the Granite Creek Bridge, Mareeba from Monday, 26 June 2023.
The project will affect traffic movements on the southern end of Byrnes Street with the Granite Creek Bridge reduced to one lane for approximately ten (10) days. Traffic control will be in place and pedestrian access on the side of the bridge will not be affected.
The one lane closure for approximately ten (10) days will allow for excavation of the road pavement for the installation of the sewer main and the connection to the collector manhole. An additional one lane closure of the same section of Byrnes St will be required following the initial closure to reinstate the asphalt road surface. This will be completed in one (1) day in mid-late July 2023.
The works are part of planned Council Infrastructure upgrades to supply and install a new trunk sewer pipeline to service Mareeba. The entire project is expected to take 5 months to complete and will start in June 2023. The project is grant funded through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) via the Qld Resilience & Risk Reduction Funding Program (QRRRF).
Mayor Angela Toppin explains, “The project to upgrade the Granite Creek Pump Station was completed in March 2023 and Council will now progress to the upgrading of the sewer main capacity.”
“The new sewer pipeline will have the capacity to meet the needs of Mareeba now and into the future and will meet all safety and environmental standards,” Mayor Toppin concluded.
