Rachael Cruwys officially sworn in as councillor of the Central Highlands

Central Highlands welcomed its newest councillor this week, as Rachael Cruwys was officially sworn in at a declaration of office ceremony held in the council chambers. 

Councillor Cruwys was appointed to the vacancy by resolution at the general council meeting held in Blackwater on Wednesday 24 May 2023 following a written application and an informal ballot process. 

Mayor Kerry Hayes led the ceremony and welcomed Cr Cruwys to the team following her swearing in by  Chief Executive Officer Sharon Houlihan. 

‘We are thrilled to welcome Cr Cruwys as the newest member of our council,’ Mayor Hayes said. 

‘Cr Cruwys brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to public service to our council. Her fresh perspective and diverse background will enrich our decision-making process and help us address the needs of our vibrant community,’ Cr Hayes continued.  

Councillor Cruwys, who is a lifelong resident of Capella, has previous experience in the local government financial sector and partakes in advocacy roles relating to regional communities, agricultural, fishing and forestry issues.  

‘I take this role and its responsibility very seriously,’ Cr Cruwys said. 

‘I am keen to engage with the community and councillors to work together in dealing with the challenges and opportunities in our region,’ she continued.  

Cr Cruwys’ appointment fills the vacancy left by former Councillor Natalie Curtis who resigned as a councillor on 31 March 2023.
