Mayor John Forsyth said the renewable energy works are part of large program of initiatives Council is taking to tackle climate change as part of its Climate Action Plan 2021-2024.
“Council is investing in Solar PV installations on Council facilities this year to increase locally generated renewable energy, reduce our reliance on grid electricity and save money on electricity bills,” Cr Forsyth said.
“Over the next month, solar panels and batteries will be installed at Mount Beauty Stadium, Mount Beauty Visitor Information Centre, Myrtleford Library, Myrtleford Supper Rooms, and Porepunkah Waste Transfer Station.”
Works are currently happening at Mount Beauty Stadium to install a new generator, solar panels, inverters and batteries.
The stadium will be partially closed for some of the works between Monday, 29 May to Sunday, 9 June, and again for the upgrade to the external meters and mains switch board from Monday, 3 July to Friday, 7 July.
Solar systems are also being installed at:
Porepunkah Transfer Station on Wednesday, 24 and Thursday, 25 May; Myrtleford Supper Rooms, located next to the Myrtleford Memorial Hall, on Friday, 2 and Monday, 5 June; Myrtleford Library on Tuesday, 6 and Wednesday 7 June; and, Mount Beauty VIC from Wednesday, 14 to Friday 16 June. There may be some minor interruptions to these facilities during the installation periods.
