A creative opportunity is taking shape in one of Baw Baw’s most inspiring destinations.
Noojee and its surrounding region are renowned for picturesque rainforests, iconic waterfalls and majestic trestle bridge. Over recent years, however, repeated severe weather events have inflicted serious damage on local properties and infrastructure and put untold stress on the proud people that call Noojee their home.
To honour the resilience of the local community, Baw Baw Shire Council is inviting qualified artists to submit expressions of interest to create three public murals that will complement the local environment and and tell Noojee’s inspiring stories of recovery.
A fee of $65,000 is on offer to the successful artist, with expressions of Interest accepted until Thursday 15 June 2023.
“There is no doubt that Noojee has been one of our hardest hit communities in recent years,” says Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Annemarie McCabe. “This project is all about fostering community identity and pride, and creating a centrepiece that will allow community members to reflect on what they’ve been through together, to celebrate their resilience, and the strength of their relationships.”
The artwork brief consists of three murals spread across the Noojee Public Toilets at 22 Bennett Street, the Noojee Public Hall at Henty Street and the Public Toilets at the corner of School Road and Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road.
Proposed designs should be captivating, vibrant and harmoniously blend with the surrounding landscape, appealing to locals and visitors alike.
