Six finalists announced for Freo Builds school holiday competition

Fremantle's much loved Freo Builds Trail is coming back this July school holidays, this time with a futuristic twist.

The City of Fremantle invited all WA primary school students to reimagine what six iconic Fremantle locations could look like 50 years from now and was delighted with the designs they received.

A panel of judges has selected six finalists whose designs will feature in the City’s annual Trail as three dimensional LEGO® artworks, created by some of Perth’s best LEGO® builders:

Benjamin De Guzman, Phoenix Primary School (featured image). “We loved Benjamin’s colourful drawing and his imagination of how the Fishing Boat Harbour could look 50 years from today.” 

Hayley Wu, All Saint’s College. “We loved Hayley’s imagination of a colourful rainbow sky train travelling around the Esplanade reserve.”

Georgia Berry, Samson Primary School. “We loved Georgia’s imagination of the beach being cleaned by colourful robots.”

Ela Erkilic, Phoenix Primary School. “We loved Ela’s colourful redesign of the library with secret play area and robots delivering books.”

Oscar Goodman, White Gum Valley Primary School. “We loved Oscar’s imagination of the Fremantle Oval as a giant robot with a car park in its belly.”

Jack Perkins, Hilton Primary School. “We loved Jack’s colourful redesign of the port as a theme park called Crane World.”

The trail will guide families around Fremantle to discover the creative and colourful ways LEGO® builders have transformed the children’s imaginative ideas.

Ticket holders who complete the Freo Builds Trail can vote for their favourite build. The student whose build attracts the most public votes wins the Ultimate Kids' Excursion to Fremantle for their whole class which this year includes a Fremantle Prison Tour, Cicerello’s aquarium tour and lunch and a round of crazy golf at Holey Moley.

Plus, every child who participates in the Freo Builds Trail will receive a free LEGO® toy.

Last year’s winner, a year 4 student from Hilton Primary School, designed the famous Dingo Flour Mill as a mutant, flower-growing factory with robotic arms.
