New Kiss and Drive bays at Dodd Street in Wembley are making student pick-ups and drop-offs a smoother process at peak times.
Home to Lake Monger Primary School, Bold Park Community School, Telethon Speech and Hearing and West Leederville Kindergarten, Dodd Street is a hugely popular destination at the start and end of the school day.
Mayor Shannon said formalising a kiss and drive facility for the school had made it safer for students, pedestrians and parents alike.
“It’s great to see first-hand that the two-minute time limit at drop-off and pick-up times is helping to keep the traffic flowing, as those peak periods can be a bit of a hectic time for everyone,” Mayor Shannon said.
“Improvements such as this are a simple way that we can keep the school community moving and reduce congestion on local roads.”
As per signage in place, two-minute restrictions apply to Kiss & Drive bays between 8.00am and 9.00am, and from 2.30pm to 3.30pm on school days.
Lake Monger Primary School Principal Diane Tomlinson said there was a noticeable improvement with traffic flow at the school since the arrival of the Kiss and Drive bays earlier this year.
“It’s making the area safer for motorists and pedestrians,” she said.
“Town of Cambridge Rangers were kindly on hand for the first fortnight when Kiss and Drive opened to support parents in using the facility and they also produced an informative brochure for parents.”
If parents, carers or guardians need to enter the school to drop-off or collect students, parking bays further up Dodd Street must be used.
