Whyte Yarcowie Wind Farm Project Update as presented at the May 2023 Council Meeting.

“Wind Prospect would like to thank the councillors for their time during the May council meeting where we were able to provide an update on the Whyte Yarcowie Wind Farm project.

As we mentioned at the meeting, the project is currently in the feasibility stage, with wind monitoring occurring from two 130 metre wind monitoring masts installed in late 2022. Data from the new masts will allow us to prepare a project design using detailed information, from which our environmental specialists will conduct their impact assessments and which will support the preparation of a Development Application anticipated for lodgement in Q1 2024. Environmental assessments are ongoing, with specialists currently conducting field work and desktop assessments to understand the existing environment.

Wind Prospect will share the design with the community for consultation via a series of community information sessions later in the year. Dates for these events will be publicised closer to the date.

At the council meeting, Wind Prospect was also pleased to introduce EDF-Renewables Australia (EDF-R) as a supporting partner of Wind Prospect in the development of the Whyte Yarcowie Wind Farm. EDF-R has an interest in the project and is supporting Wind Prospect to progress the project to the next stages of development, with a view to acquiring the project. The project aligns with EDF-R’s global strategy of accelerating the transition to a carbon-neutral economy and should EDF-R acquire the Whyte Yarcowie Wind Farm, it would be a significant addition to the renewable energy capacity of their Australian portfolio.

EDF-R are also developing their own projects across Australia, with projects in Queensland and NSW. Information about EDF-Renewables Australia can be found via their site: https://www.edf-re.com.au/

Finally, our sponsorship program is open, so anyone with ideas for community events, projects and activities that could use financial support, please get in touch via the project website https://whyteyarcowiewindfarm.com.au/.”
