Electric Vehicle Charging Station opens at Creswick

Published on 07 June 2023

The Creswick Visitor Information Centre is home to Hepburn Shire’s second electric vehicle (EV) charging station, thanks to a collaboration between Chargefox, Hepburn Energy, Hepburn Shire Council and Central Highlands Water, with installation by Fells Electrical.

The Creswick EV charging station is partially funded by the State Government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria Program, with the balance funded by Hepburn Shire Council, Hepburn Energy and Central Highlands Water. The program is just one component of the State Government’s Zero Emissions Vehicle Roadmap and aims to install fast-charging stations in high-use regional areas and tourist locations in Victoria.

These stations will help our region's impressive tourism industry become more sustainable, strengthening Shire-wide efforts to reach zero-net emissions by 2030 as part of the Hepburn Z-NET partnership. With further stations under development in Trentham, Hepburn Springs and Clunes, community members and travellers will be better able to adopt and drive electric vehicles, without worrying about their range.

The charging stations will all be available on the Chargefox network, the largest EV charging network in Australia.

Hepburn Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brian Hood, said that sustainability and creating better environmental outcomes for our community was a key priority for Council. “We welcome this partnership with Hepburn Energy, Chargefox and Central Highland Water to deliver another EV station in our Shire.  This will encourage tourism to our region and help support locals making the transition to electric vehicles.”

Chargefox CEO John Sullivan said "Chargefox is committed to making it easy for destinations to own and manage EV charging infrastructure. These new chargers at Creswick join the Chargefox network enabling drivers to locate, use and pay for EV charging in over 1400 locations available across Australia.”

Hepburn Energy’s General Manager, Taryn Lane, said that this program is another excellent example of collaboration on emissions reductions as part of the Shire and community alliance, Hepburn Z-NET.

“Transitioning transport is critical to enable our Shire to reach zero-net emissions by 2030, with these new chargers, community members and tourists can feel confident making this shift.”

Quote from Jeff Haydon, Managing Director, Central Highlands Water “Central Highlands Water is committed to environmental and community leadership across our service area. This new electric vehicle charging station in Creswick is another example of how positive partnerships can support the local community for future generations.”
