The group will soon have their say on the work the City is planning for young people over the next six years, including events and programs, through their involvement with the upcoming Strategy for Early Years, Children and Young People.
The info night will run from 5pm – 6.30pm. If you are 14 - 24 years old and live, study or work in the City of Rockingham (or are a parent, guardian or carer of someone who is), you are invited to meet the RYRG, learn about its history, and see if you would like to join the team.
There will also be information packs, light refreshments and finger food available.
Member Keira Fuller joined the RYRG in 2022 and said the program gave young people the chance to share ideas and create change in Rockingham.
“Not only do we get to meet other awesome young people who share our values, through the RYRG we are given the opportunity to meet Councillors and decision makers who make the big decisions for our City,” Kiera said.
It is uplifting, inspiring and hopeful to be surrounded by all of these likeminded people and opportunities.Fellow member Rayne Mansfield said the best thing about the RYRG was to be part of a ‘voice’ that could drive change.
I am part of the reference group because I want to help represent a portion of the population (youth) to people of higher authority and be a part of the voice that can make change within the community."The RYRG gives me opportunities to do exactly that,” Rayne said.
Mayor Deb Hamblin said youth development and involvement was a key objective in the City’s Strategic Community Plan.
“Joining the RYRG is a fabulous chance for young people who are passionate about their City to make a real difference in the community,” Mayor Hamblin said
The RYRG provides feedback to City staff and Council on the delivery of events like the popular Youth Beach Party, the activation and ongoing use of the RYC, and other important programs and strategies. The RYC is located on MacKinnon Street in Rockingham, and can be contacted for more information on 9591 0836 or [email protected]
