Mullumbimby stormwater pipe upgrade on the way for main street

Published on 13 June 2023

Council is starting work on renewing two stormwater pipes that run underground on Burringbar St, from Stuart Street to McGoughans Lane on 15 June.

The work is expected to take two days to complete, depending on the weather.

“Our recent drainage inspections across Mullumbimby enabled clearing of blockages, repairs and maintenance across the network and also identified these central stormwater pipes in Burringbar Street as being in need of renewal,” Council’s Infrastructure Services Operations Coordinator Kirk Weallans said.

“The works will involve re-lining two stormwater pipes, allowing water to move through them more effectively,” Mr Weallans said.

“Re-lining the pipes is a good way to help extend the pipes’ useful life,” Mr Weallans said.

Work crews will at two locations - near the corner of Stuart and Burringbar Street (outside of the Newsagency) and near the Other Joint Café.

Car parking will be blocked off for periods of time throughout the day.

Traffic on Burringbar and at the intersection of McGoughan Lane and Stuart Street will also be impacted. Through traffic on McGoughans Lane will not be possible during the works.

Council apologises for inconvenience to residents, businesses and their customers while this upgrade is being completed.

Please be advised that due to the nature of these works and use of heavy machinery there may be minor noise impacts.
