Five of the 12 awards are new and have been introduced to reflect the diverse range of athletes, volunteers and sporting clubs that operate in the City of Rockingham.
Highlighting the calibre of talent in these annual awards, last year’s Junior Sports Star of the Year, Declan McGhee, won state and national BMX titles before representingAustralia at the UCI BMX World Championships and achieved two podium finishes.
Meanwhile, Senior Sports Star of the Year, Ashlyn Mohr, excelled in tenpin bowling and was selected to represent Australia at the IBF Under 21 World Championships. She also secured a college scholarship in the United States as an international tenpin bowling athlete which allowed her to compete in the prestigious USA Collegiate Sporting System.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged community members involved in local sporting groups to nominate a deserving recipient.
“This year, the City’s Sports Star Awards will celebrate 26 years of recognising and rewarding the achievements of local sporting individuals, clubs and teams participating in international, national, state, regional and local competitions,” Mayor Hamblin said.
