Construction is underway on two new community centres, and Wyndham City Council invites residents to help name them.

Opening in 2024, Black Forest Road South Community Centre (interim name) in Werribee and Truganina Community Centre (interim name) in Truganina will improve access to high quality early childhood services and host community programs, events and activities.

New centre names must connect with one of four themes: place, Traditional Owner recognition, gender equality or commemoration. The first step in the naming process is for residents to visit The Loop and help choose which theme should guide the name selection.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Susan McIntyre, said: "These new community centres will become the foundations of learning, connection and opportunity for our residents, so it's essential that centre names reflect the values of the people they support."

"I invite all residents to help name these new centres by sharing which theme resonates with them."

The $13.7 million community centre in Werribee will be located along Shipwright Parade in Harpley Estate near Lollypop Creek Primary School P-6. The Victorian Government supports the delivery of this centre through a $2.5 million Building Blocks grant and $1.3 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund.

Truganina's $18.4 million community centre will be located on Everton Road, next to a new secondary school opening in 2024. This project is supported by the Victorian Government through $4 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, $3 million from a Building Blocks grant and $921,000 from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.

Wyndham City Learning City portfolio holder, Councillor Jasmine Hill, said both centres would boost the number of kindergarten spots available to families from 2025.

“The Truganina Community Centre will also feature a Library Lounge offering a collection of items residents can borrow and access to technology and quiet space,” Cr Hill said.

To help name these centres, visit The Loop to tell us which theme you prefer and to find details of pop-up sessions where you can chat with Council officers.
