What a year! Over 2022/23 Wyndham City has invested over $125 million into our capital works program, delivering essential infrastructure such as roads, parks and open spaces, community centres and more for our growing community.
In the past year we’ve opened two new community centres – Tarneit’s $5.7 million Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre and the $8.2 million Birnbial Family Centre in Manor Lakes.
These provide a range of community, health and education services and programs in our high-growth areas, including kindergarten and maternal and child health.
Council has also invested heavily in improving our local road network, including a $5 million rehabilitation of Sayers Road (between Tarneit Road and Reflections Boulevard) in Tarneit to make the road smoother, safer and more enjoyable for motorists to use.
This is in addition to rebuilding 12 local roads and resurfacing another 49 through our annual Road Reconstructions Program and Road Surface Renewal Program.
Wyndham City Mayor Susan McIntyre said other project highlights included a $1 million upgrade of the Boundary and Davis Road intersection in Mount Cottrell, opening of the Williams Landing Library Lounge and completion of Truganina’s $15.1 million Alcock Road Reserve.
“We’ve also upgraded seven sporting pavilions across the City as part of our sporting pavilion upgrades program, refreshed the Werribee Outdoor Pool concourse and upgraded 11 parks and open spaces through our Parks Asset Renewals Program,” Cr McIntyre said.
“Additionally, we’ve completed a $1 million upgrade of Fraser Street Park in Hoppers Crossing, a $1.2 million upgrade at Tarneit’s Moondara Street Park, and opened the new Caraleena Drive Park in Tarneit.”
“We’ve also made significant headway on several other capital works projects in the past 12 months, including opening stages one and two of Point Cook’s newest active open spaces, the $15.95 million Webster Street Reserve and $5.6 million Brookdale Road Reserve.”
“Work is also underway on two new community centres, Werribee’s $13.7 million Black Forest Road South Community Centre (interim name) and the $18 million Truganina Community Centre.”
“Meanwhile, construction on a $13.5 million duplication of Tarneit Road (between Sayers Road and Leakes Road) in Tarneit will begin in late 2023, and work on the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection upgrade in Tarneit will also commence later this year.”
“As the fastest-growing area in Australia, it’s important that our community has the infrastructure they need, close to home.”
"Our 2022/23 capital works program represents Council’s ongoing commitment to provide quality infrastructure and amenities for our community members, ensuring that Wyndham City remains an attractive and liveable area for all."
