Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Tammy Radford and Deputy Mayor Councillor Jack Kowarzik are inviting residents to get involved in creating a community artwork to celebrate NAIDOC Week.
The artwork – named ‘Celebration of Hands’ – will be displayed at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Pakenham Library and Emerald Library throughout NAIDOC Week, from Sunday 2 to Sunday 9 July 2023.
Community members are encouraged to visit an art station at Cardinia Cultural Centre, Pakenham Library or Emerald Library to create their own art to contribute to the installation. Artwork produced will be included with art by local schools.
The ‘Celebration of Hands’ art installations aim to raise awareness of the significance of NAIDOC Week. Information displays at each of the sites will highlight this year’s theme ‘For Our Elders’.
“NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity to learn about, connect with and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” Cr Kowarzik said.
“We’d love to see as many people as possible get involved in creating this community art installation.” Mayor Radford said.
