After 15 regional roundtable roadshows, pop ups at shopping centres, stalls at local shows, community events and Ag-Grow, as well as a very successful business leaders breakfast, the engagement phase of the ‘Your Region, Your Vision’ project is almost over.
‘The vision that we create together will be something that is owned by the whole region and designed to make the Central Highlands an even better place to live, work and play,’ said Mayor Kerry Hayes.
’The ideas presented at the roundtables and the survey, by local mums and dads, kids, community groups and businesses have been innovative, exciting, thought provoking and resourceful.
‘Our community is passionate about the direction we are heading, and we have some great ideas to work with,’ he continued.
Throughout the consultation process, it is clear people love living in the Central Highlands region. The community spirit, friendliness of our local towns and the culture of support ingrained in communities within our region were some of the highlights that were consistant across the Central Highlands.
However, there are also things that need work. Emerging themes from visioning discussions include aged care improvements, tourism development, housing and town planning, water security and alternative economic strategies.
Opportunities for ‘at risk’ youth, bridging the emergency services gap in some of our smaller communities and development of a multi-use sporting precinct, were all catalyst projects suggested during stage one of the visioning project.
As the engagement phase winds down and the drafting of the vision document begins to take shape, council would like to acknowledge the participants who took the time to speak to our staff and share their vision. Whether you met with us face to face, or took the time to fill in a postcard, online survey or draw your vision in the youth art competition, thank you for your contribution.
It’s not too late to have your say – the online survey is open until 9 July and entries to the Youth Art Competition are also open until 9 July, enter here to draw your vision.
