Upper Hunter Shire Council today released a series of key decisions that will set the course for our community in the 2023/2024 financial year. These include the adoption of the Delivery Program & Operational Plan (DPOP), and the setting of rates and annual charges, ending with the approval to install Return and Earn reverse vending machines.
Leading with a significant development, Council has adopted the DPOP for the 2023/2024 financial year. This year’s budget for Upper Hunter Shire Council is the largest in many years, with a planned expenditure of $134 million for the next year. This strategic plan outlines key activities, infrastructure development plans, and service provision strategies to ensure the prosperity and wellbeing of all residents. This substantial investment in our community will facilitate essential projects such as the Scone CBD revitalisation and the continued development of MR358, along with other key pieces of vital infrastructure.
Following on from the DPOP, Council has announced the rates and annual charges for the financial year commencing 1 July 2023. These charges have been calculated to ensure the efficient delivery of proposed programs and services. More information about these charges can be obtained from Council's website.
Return and Earn machines are set to be installed at locations in both Merriwa and Scone, following Council approval last night. As part of the Council's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, these machines will provide an easy and accessible way for community members to recycle containers and earn a refund in the process. This program will not only reduce litter and waste in our environment but also give back to our residents for their eco-friendly practices.
