Rolleston’s Beazley Park has won Park and Leisure Australia’s ‘Queensland PlaySpace award’ for projects under $500,000.
The park became a reality thanks to a collaboration between Glencore, the Community Gambling Benefit Fund, Rolleston Progress and Tourism Association and Central Highlands Regional Council.
The award-winning design by Kyle Marsden from Urban Play was influenced by child development and universal design principals which has rejuvenated the area and seen increased usage by locals and visitors.
Key elements of the design include:
a double bay swing that caters for all ages with classic seating, a toddler seat and a birds nest seat. mega deck play tower for younger adventurers with tactile play panels to encourage cognitive, social and physical play. 6m tower with two slides, climbing obstacles and viewing platform. 33m cableway for kids both big and small.‘We are proud to be a part of the project that bought a much-needed facility to the local community, ultimately boosting community spirit’ said Mr Marsden.
Glencore’s Community Relations Manager, Craig Strudwick said that the Rolleston Progress and Tourism Association drove the project and wanted to deliver for their community.
‘We saw an opportunity to help make it happen and further develop capacity within the town,’ Mr Strudwick said.
‘Council’s parks and gardens are an important part of building communities and welcoming visitors,’ said General Manager Communities John McDougall.
’They support a healthy lifestyle and provide a place to recharge the batteries for kids and parents, and we’re excited to bring something innovative and fun to Rolleston, our team is honoured to have been a part of a project, driven by the community and nominated for such a prestigious award and to go on and win is just incredible,’ he continued.
